I am writing something using something authored by EGCC, and I have to cite it. How do I do this?

Answer

You are in your CSS 106 course and are told that you have to write something on Satisfactory Academic Progress and you need to cite it in APA. You'll want to follow the general instructions found on this slide for your reference entry:

But you will have slight alterations,

For the author, it's Eastern Gateway Community College

Even though the date is obviously 2022 (because the information taken is from the most recent version of the College Catalog) because the date isn't given clearly at all, you must use the no date format, (n.d.).

For the title of lecture, Satisfactory Academic Progress [PDF document]

In text citation is exactly like it is in all APA in-text citations where there is an author, but no date.

1) According to Eastern Gateway Community College, text in the sentence is here (n.d.).

or

2) "Quote" (Eastern Gateway Community College, n.d.).

If you have to cite a video, here are the instructions.

To cite streaming videos (like from YouTube or Vimeo), you can follow the format from Slide 13 in these presentation slides: https://egcc.libguides.com/ld.php?content_id=65348241. If it is not a streaming video and is instead embedded in your Canvas course, you would cite it like an online video lecture. Here is the format for that:

Instructor’s Last Name, A. A. (Year). Title of video [Video file]. Retrieved from https://egcc.instructure.com/

If you are unsure what year the video was published, you can put (n.d.) in the (Year) spot. Also, if your instructor did not create the video, you can put Eastern Gateway Community College instead of the instructor’s name:

Eastern Gateway Community College. (Year). Title of video [Video file]. Retrieved from https://egcc.instructure.com/

PLEASE NOTE: It also wouldn’t hurt to email your instructor to double check your citations since these resources are a bit tricky to cite. Some instructors may want things cited a bit differently, but the general formats above should work for citing most module materials embedded in Canvas.
