How do I find the page numbers for a Nexis Uni case?
Answer
Occasionally students will need to locate the original page numbers for information from a case file. When you download or print a case, the page numbers that appear in the traditional locations are typically the page numbers for the sheets that you print off (for example, page 10 of 16).
Nexis Uni indicates page breaks and page numbers in case reporters by displaying the page numbers in brackets such as [483]. At times, the page numbers may be preceded by a varying number of asterisks. These asterisks indicate which reporter the page numbers have originated from. The reporter list at the top of the case will indicate how many asterisks will appear for that reporter's page numbers.
So for this line in our example: [*582] [**864] [***1164] MR. JUSTICE BLACK delivered the opinion of the Court. - we can see that the first set of page numbers is from the U.S. Reporter, the second set is from the Supreme Court Reporter, and so on.
