How do I use the Cite tool in the library databases?

Answer

Many of the Library's online databases have a "Cite" tool that will provide you with the correct citation for the article you are reading. These tools generally will allow you to choose from the major citation formats and to copy and paste the citation into your document. While they generally operate in a similar manner, there are some minor differences among them. Below are a couple of examples that illustrate how these tools work.

When using these citation tools, be sure to check that all the necessary information is present and carries over. You may need to correct them manually if they are missing any pieces of the citation.

EBSCO's Cite Tool

The "Cite" tool is located on the right side of an articles details page.

Click on "Cite" to bring up the available citation formats. Depending on the citation format you wish to use, you may need to use the scroll bar to adjust the list. Once you arrive at your desired format, copy and paste the citation into your document.

Nexis Uni

The "Export Citation" button in Nexis Uni is generally found in the center of the page near the top of the article.

Click on "Export Citation" to bring up the available citation formats. Nexis Uni only offers citations in four formats, APA, BlueBook, Chicago, and MLA. Choose your desired citation format from the list.

Once you have viewed your citation format, click on the "Copy to Clipboard"  and paste it into your document.
