How do I save or print my textbook in the OER Commons?

OER Commons hosts my text book but how can I get a PDF of it or print it out?

Answer

To Print or Save

If your textbook is located on the OER Commons website, it is possible to read the book on the webpage, download it to your computer or print it out. You can even create a profile to save books to if you have more than one text on the site.

Click on the section that you want to read, download or print. If after clicking on the link, the resource doesn't open, try right clicking and opening the link in a new tab. Then click on the new tab that opened.

Right click over the text and select Print from the shortcut menu. You will do this regardless of whether you want to save as a PDF or print. If you click Save As from the menu, it will try to save the entire webpage not the PDF.

Most of the time, you should have the ability to either Print from your chosen printer or Save as PDF from your list of options. Then you should click the blue button at the bottom right that aligns with that choice.

If you decide to save as a PDF, choose a location on your computer and click Save.

To Create an Account

If you wish to create an account in the OER commons, you can save materials to a profile on the website for easy recall.

Click on Save and the site will prompt you to Log in. The first time, you will need to Create an account by clicking Register and then filling out the required information.

A confirmation email will be sent to you with a confirmation code and choice of links to input that code.

You will then have the ability to click Save and add something to a folder or create a new folder or go to My Items to see your list of saved works.
