How do I add a Gale eBook or Resource to my Canvas Course?
Answer
There are two methods for adding Gale eBooks to your Canvas course. This FAQ will outline both methods.
Method 1 (Recommended): Adding a Gale Resource as an external URL using the Gale "Get Link"
Step 1: Add item to your canvas module.
In your module where you would like to add the Gateway Search content, go to the module navigation bar and click the "+" to an item to your canvas module.
Step 2: Choose "External URL" from the list of item options.
Step 3: Fill Out Relevant Fields
Field 1: Resource URL
Field 2: Page (Resource title) Name
Field 3: Check box to force resource to open in new window.
An Aside: How to Find the Gale "Get Link"
To find the "Get LINK" for your Gale eBook or article, select the title you wish to use. Click on the chain link icon in the upper right of your screen. A pop-up window should open containing the "Get LINK" for your title. Copy and paste this url into Canvas. This link contains the necessary information to log into our copy of the eBook.
Step 4: Click on "Add Item"
Step 5: Publish Resource
Remember to publish the item to make the resource visible to your students.
Method 2: Adding the Gale eBook Platform or a Gale Database.
Please Note - this method will embed the entire Gale eBook platform, or Gale Database into your course. Students can then use this database to search for eBooks or articles.
Step 1 is the same as previous method.
Step 2: Choose External Tool from the list. Click "Add Item".
Step 3: Publish Resource. Preview in student view.
Please contact the library if you have any question regarding this process.
